What is a Salt Glow?A salt glow is a body exfoliation treatment using salt mixed with a natural oil to smooth the skin. A salt glow is also known as a salt scrub. Salt Glow Spa Treatment: Salt glow spa treatments can be stand alone or they can be used in conjunction with other spa treatments or massage. A salt glow typically lasts about 20-30 minutes. The skin is buffed with oil and salt until the skin turns pink or red signaling the circulation of blood to the surface of the skin. Benefits of a Salt Glow: After a salt glow, your skin will feel smooth and silky. The top layer of dead skin has been exfoliated leaving a fresh, supple layer of skin. Salt is also considered to have detoxifying properties. Sea salt in particular is rich in mineral content. So your salt glow nourishes the skin with minerals from the salt. Lastly, as mentioned above, your skin will naturally flush when the salt glow is done with the appropriate pressure. This response shows an increase in blood circulation: both blood and lymph circulation. History of the Salt Glow: Sea salt is the most common type of salt used by spas during a salt glow treatment. Sea salt comes in coarse or fine varieties. The thickness of your skin will determine which salt texture feels better (for thinner skin, the finer the salt). Salt Glow Spa Treatment Training: There is no certification course for providing salt glows. Most spa therapists learn to do salt glows by working at spas. You will definitely be told not to get a salt glow if you have just shaved, have any fresh nicks or cuts or have sunburn. All of these things will make a salt glow quite uncomfortable. What Happens During a Salt Glow: A salt glow will feel stimulating or invigorating. Your skin will feel rejuvenated as the salt lifts and releases dead skin. You will also be very oily initially from the salt glow application which is good. After being scrubbed on the back of the body and the front of the body, you will shower in as hot of water as possible to remove all the salt crystals from your skin. No soap is using during the rinse. We always recommend a massage after a salt glow because the second application of oil/lotion is what really helps the skin to feel silky. Your SpaNomad Salt Glow Spa Treatment: We love to use hot and rich, organic oils with your salt glow. Instead of using firm pressure during the salt glow, we like to use light to medium pressure and do more strokes over time. This ensures your complete comfort and actually relaxation during the salt glow. Salt glows are not Olympic events, no use going for the gusto on the first round.
